This week's journal prompt was, "Turn on the radio. Switch the station every 10 seconds. Transcribe everything you hear." I can't remember the last time I listened to the radio. All the music I listen to is downloaded on my phone, so I had to cheat when completing this prompt. I went to my music playlist, put it on shuffle, and recorded a random 10 seconds of 10 songs. I had to record it before I transcribed it because some of the lyrics were too fast to write before the next song came on. I wrote all the lyrics below to create a short remix narrative. When you read the pieces of lyrics back, it can be interpreted in many ways. I interpreted it as a story about a girl who was accusing her boyfriend of not being loyal, so she leaves him for another man. She gets into partying and dancing. Then, she realizes she left him too quick. She loves him and wishes that she had him back.
Here's the lyrics:
Tell me who you loyal to. Is it money? Is it fame? Is it weed? Is it drink? Is it coming down with the loud pipes and the rain? Big chilling, only for the power in your name. Tell me who you loyal to.
It ain't my fault, but I upgrade you, show you how to use nice things with nice flavors. What you know about me? What you, what you, what you know about me?
That don't matter, he said, because it's all the same. Said can I take you home where we can be alone, next we were moving on. He was with me, yeah me, next we were moving on. He was with me, yeah me singing, I love rock n' roll.
I'm a lover and I'm a sinner, playing my music in the sun. I'm a joker. I'm a smoker. I'm a mid-night toker. I get my loving on the run.
Walked in this party and these girls looking at me. Skinny jeans on and you know my hair nappy. Hey. Hey. Hey! Okay. Okay. I want y'all do it, do this dance now JuJu on the beat.
I'm fergalicious, so delicious. My body stay vicious. I be up in the gym just working on my fitness. He's my witness. I put your boy on rock rock, and he be lining down the block just to watch what I got.
Put some more wop, wop, wop, wop. Purple flag wop wop wop wop. Drink a stand wop, wop, wop, wop. Hit your body like wop, wop, wop, wop. And we do it like wop, wop, wop, wop. Slow down like wop, wop, wop, wop.
You are my fire, the one desire. Believe when I say, I want it that way.
I'm waking up. Hey, my life is real great, feel I'm well on my way to my dreams coming true and I'm getting to do with you. And it feels so nice when the people sing along, they're singing along with the banjo. But I'd take it all back, take it all back, take it all back. I'd take it all back just to have you
When a heart breaks no it don't break even. Even? No. What am I supposed to do when the best part of me was always you, and what am I supposed to say when I'm all choked up and you're OK? I'm falling to pieces. Yeah.
