Makeup and Media

I love makeup. I love doing people’s makeup. I love doing my own makeup. It’s fun and creative. When I was growing up people always made me feel afraid to where makeup. They would say things like, “You’re too young to wear makeup,” or “You look like a clown,” or “You wear too much makeup.” I have always loved makeup, but was afraid to wear it. People made it seem like it was a problem. I think that social media today has completely changed that type of thinking.
This week I was asked, “Who are the people whose digital presence or identity you most admire?” Obviously, I admire celebrities. Most people admire famous people. On Instagram, Snapchat, or Twitter I love following makeup artists or people who get their makeup done. I follow most of the popular celebrity makeup artists. Makeup artists have basically taken over most social media. They have made makeup a form of art. Everyone wants to try it. Now people don’t judge you for “wearing too much makeup.” Everyone is wearing makeup. Their gender or age doesn’t matter. Guys are not afraid to show everyone their makeup. I have seen a variety of people, from 10 year old boys to 80 year old women, making makeup tutorials. It’s awesome. I admire them all.
There is not a time in the day where I will scroll through my social media feed and not see something to do with makeup. I will definitely see something to do with makeup from Manny Mua, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, James Charles, etc. A lot of people could argue, but to me, they are such an inspiration. It’s not even only because of the makeup. It’s because they are not afraid to express theirselves, and they help other people to not be afraid to express theirseves. They are also just genuinely good people. I’m inspired by their humor and real-ness.
